Reinitializing a BACnet Device

The Reinitialize Device service in BACnet is typically used for maintenance or diagnostic purposes. By initiating the service, you instruct a remote device to perform specific actions, such as restarting, applying configuration updates, or managing backup and restore operations. It might require a password to ensure that only authorized users can perform these actions.

To reinitialize a device:

  1. Open Workbench and in the Project Explorer pane, expand your project > Data Connectivity > BACnet > Channels.
  2. Expand the desired channel and network, and then right-click the desired device and select Reinitialize Device.

  3. In State of Device, select the type of reinitialization required to state of the device after reinitialization.

    • Cold Start: Completely restarts the device.
    • Warm Start: Resets the device to a predefined initial state.
    • Start BackupEnd Backup: Controls the process of the device backup.
    • Start RestoreEnd RestoreAbort Restore: Controls the process of restoring the device.
    • Activate Changes: Activates changes in the NetworkPort object.
  4. If required, enter the device password for reinitialization, and then click OK.
